Weather and Climate
Portugal is a large country bordering both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. So as you'd expect it enjoys a good deal of climatic variation as a result. The North West of the country is one of the best choices for anyone planning to book holiday villas in Portugal over the winter season. As temperatures here are warmer than elsewhere in the country at that time of the year. The south, home to the fine beaches of the Algarve, enjoys the hottest weather and as a result remains the busiest holiday destination for tourists all year round. With the mercury sometimes even hitting 40 degrees Celsius during August and September. This is also where you will find the majority of our villas in Portugal.
Food and Drink
As you'd expect from a nation with such a proud maritime history seafood lies at the heart of Portuguese cuisine. Especially bacalao or salt cod, which is virtually the national dish. Much like their Iberian neighbours the Portuguese also have a real predilection for pork. And thanks to their rich trading past - the Portuguese were responsible for opening up the first spice routes to the Far East - herbs such as cumin and coriander also feature very prominently in most of the best known national dishes here.
The Main Resorts
Albufeira is the gateway to the Algarve and is located just 40 minutes from Faro airport. This area is renowned for both the quantity and the quality of its beaches and the town itself was once a bustling sea port. Like much of the Iberian Peninsula Albufeira was ruled by both the Romans and the Moors in previous centuries. Rocked by an earthquake in 1755 Albufeira is now one of the most popular destinations in Portugal and an ideal spot for a villa holiday. As it offers great weather and accommodation along with plenty of culture and history and a bustling nightlife.
Alvor is a small fishing village located close to Praia de Rocha, around 70km away from Faro airport. Like many other towns and villages along the Algarve it was rocked by the earthquake in 1755. But today offers a peaceful haven for holidaymakers looking for a low key location for their villa holiday in Portugal. Boasting a number of good quality restaurants and no less than three 18 hole golf courses in close proximity.
Once a small fishing village before the onset of tourism in the 1970s Carvoeiro has managed to retain some of its original character intact despite its undoubted popularity as a holiday destination. Its rocky coastline hides numerous sandy beaches and coves. Whilst its quiet streets are home to lots of good quality restaurants serving local cuisine. All of which makes Carvoerio an ideal location for anyone in search of good quality holiday villas in Portugal.
We offer a selection of good quality villa rental properties in and around Lagos, the picturesque town located at the western end of the Algarve. Which for a time was the capital of this region. There are some fantastic beaches in and around Lagos, such as Praia de Dona Ana and Meia Praia. Whilst the town itself is arrayed around the extremely picturesque Lagos Bay. Lagos is home to an abundance of historic buildings such as the Sao Jao Hermitage which dates back to the 8th Century. As well as a wide selection of good quality restaurants.
Luz is also often refereed to as Praia de Luz - or Beach of Light in English - the town has evolved from its former incarnation as a traditional fishing village to become a popular seaside resort. Boasting a delightful sandy beach at its heart which is flanked by the large cliff Rocha Negra to the east and the town's former lighthouse, now an upmarket restaurant to the west.
Widely regarded as one of the leading resorts in the Algarve Vale de Lobo nestles in a valley backed by pine clad hills which runs right down to a huge white sand beach that extends for miles in both directions away from the resort centre. Low rise luxury accommodation blends in tastefully with this atmospheric backdrop and the resort offers an abdundance of amenities and facilities. Such as bars, shops and restaurants. As well as golf courses and watersports.
Tourism first took off in Vilamoura in the early 1970s and developed quickly - with this area now offering a large selection of bars and restaurants alongside other attractions such as a modern Marina, golf courses and a Waterpark. Vilamoura is essentially a purpose built holiday destination and is enormously popular with tourists from both the UK and Eire.
